It is not the best moment for the telecommunications companies and in Teleconnect they know this, is why their new general manager is wielding the world <> when talking about the sector and even about the plans of the company he heads. Juan Miguel Hitos has just come on board the operator, which has its headquarters in Marbella, coming from the management of Ola Internet.
In his portfolio he holds plans that will try to make Teleconnect the second-largest operator in national calls in 2003, always staying withtin his activity sector, that of islands and coastal regions.
For this reason the company is preparing to invest 2.160 million pesetas. However, the possibility of accumulating this amount will have to wait longer than was initially foreseen, as Hitos himself indicated yesterday. The financing conference that the company had prepared for these dates will be delayed until June of the following year, due to the situation of current uncertainty. It will be then when a capital increase of 1,660 million pesetas occurs. The figure will be rounded out with the payout of 500 million pesetas that has already been made on the part of the shareholders of the company.

The investment will be aimed at expanding the company´s presence in Barcelona, Alicante, Valencia, The Canaries, Vigo and Asturias this year and making sure they are present throughout national territory by the end of the next financial year. This year Teleconnect forecasts 1.900 million pesetas in invoicing, compared to the 500 million they earned in the last financial year, which was not complete. The 2001 closure will also be accompanied by the first profits before tax that will total 300 million pesetas. The firm, which has just launched an international flat rate, has 10,000 residential customers and 1,000 SME customers.
